The hot dry Central Oregon weather means fire can spread easily.
A Madrs-area shop fire started a one acre grass fire yesterday.
Firefighters were able to stop the Elk Drive blaze before it burned any homes, but the shop was destroyed.
Meanwhile, KTVZ reports a brush fire near Cow Canyon north of Madras blackened about 500 acres.
Some homes were threatened for a time, prompting pre-evacuation notices, but crews were able to get it under control before it damaged any structures.
Investigators are looking into the cause of both fires.
